Netflix’s slate of games continues to expand as Night School Studio’s critically acclaimed narrative title Oxenfree hits the streaming platform. The game originally released in 2016 and was praised for its signature sound, realistic dialogue system, engaging storytelling, relatable characters, and stunning visuals. All of this can be enjoyed by Android and iOS users without ads or in-app purchases as long as you have a Netflix subscription.
In Oxenfree, players will take on the role of a bright but rebellious teenager named Alex. He has a half-brother, Jonas, whom he brings to a night party on Edwards Island, which is an abandoned military region. Sounds strange, right? Well, that’s just the beginning.
These teenagers have their night ruined thanks to their actions as they end up opening a ghostly rift that was on the island. It’s an abandoned military area, so something bad has definitely happened in the past. And this group succeeded in resurrecting the threat.
The story will continue as players explore the Edwards Islands making crucial dialogue choices for Alex. It’s a beautiful enough place but there are many horrors waiting that will reshape everyone’s part and future. Alex has no idea what awaits him, nor does he know what will happen next, as you, the player, control his every choice, shaping the story in a particular direction.
Speaking about the launch, Sean Krankel, co-founder and studio director at Night School Studio, said: “Oxenfree is such a special game for so many people and launching on Netflix is a really exciting opportunity for us to introduce Alex’s story to even more people – maybe even someone who would never have thought he would like to play a game. As a Netflix game studio, we have the best support to bring Oxenfree: Netflix Edition to a global audience. Our community has long requested subtitles in other languages and this version of OXENFREE: Netflix Edition truly offers the best storytelling experience for players around the world in their local language.
