Another session of the city council was held in Dnipro this week.
About its results in interview with Open said the secretary of the Dnipro City Council Alexander Sanzhara.
Despite Russia’s large-scale aggression against Ukraine, the power structures of the Dnieper operate normally. However, city council employees are in different buildings so as not to expose them to danger. Deputies also act in the same way. Meetings of standing commissions are held online.
The renaming of a number of toponyms was the most resonant issue discussed by deputies at the session. Among them are Hlinka Street, which was named in honor of Queen Elizabeth II, Schmidt Street – in honor of Stepan Bandera. Regarding Bandera Street, discussions have been going on since 2019, but there was not enough support in the deputies’ corps to make a relevant decision. Only after Russia’s large-scale aggression did it become obvious that Bandera Street should be in the Dnipro.
The deputies also created an inspection for state control over the use and protection of the lands of the Dnipro City Council, and supported an appeal to the Ministry of Culture regarding objects of cultural heritage and monuments of the totalitarian period.
Earlier we wrote about the changes are waiting Faculty of History of DNU.
