The International Court of Appeals of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) has overturned a decision to remove the Russian Bobsleigh Federation (FBI). The Court of Appeal of the International Toboggan Federation (FIL) has also renewed the Russian Toboggan Federation (USSR) as a full member.
Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, international sports federations have imposed sanctions against Russia. In bobsleigh and skeleton, this sanction was the removal of the Russian Bobsleigh Federation – it provided a ban on the participation of Russian athletes in international tournaments.
Interestingly, the restoration of Russian organizations is reported by local WMD, there is no official confirmation on the website of the International Federation.
Note that the decision of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation was valid only until July, before the congress of the organization. The Russian Bobsleigh Federation will approach him as a full member, that is, he will be able to exhibit athletes at international competitions.
“This is a very good sign for us. The tribunal did not say anything about the athletes, as we filed a lawsuit against the temporary suspension of our federation. It is clear that if the suspension, for example, continued, we as a federation could not claim athletes to international starts “.
In any case, even if some further steps are taken against us, we can appeal to the decision of colleagues from the international federation, “- quotes words of FBI Secretary General Sergei Parkhomenko Sports.ru.
It should be added that on March 2, Russia and Belarus were indefinitely banned from international sledding. The FSSR also appealed the decision of the FIL executive committee, which was upheld. Thus, Russians will be able to participate in international tournaments, as well as hold competitions on their territory. Meanwhile, on June 7, the International Skating Union (ISU) extended the period of exclusion of Russian and Belarusian athletes from all athletes from international competitions.
- Latvia has announced that it will boycott all bobsled and skeleton competitions with Russian athletes;
- The 2022/23 Skeleton World Cup season will run from November 2022 to February 2023. The season will include eight stages of the World Cup, as well as the World Cup, which will host the Swiss St. Moritz.
