Russian soldiers are chaotically fleeing, trying to get out of the encirclement.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have probably finished encirclement of Russian troops in the city of Liman in the north of Donetsk region. Experts predict that the Ukrainian military will be able to take the city in the near future if the occupiers do not receive reinforcements.
TSN.ua understood what is currently happening in Donetsk region.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine does not comment on the course of this military operation, but the spokesman of the Eastern Group of Forces does Sergey Cherevaty reported that the encirclement of Liman is already at the stage of completion.
“Actually, all approaches and logistical routes of the enemy, along which he delivered ammunition and manpower, are under the fire control of the Armed Forces,” Cherevaty said.
As reported by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the success of the ZSU in Liman will have serious consequences for the Russian group in the north of Donetsk and west of Luhansk regions and will allow Ukrainian troops to threaten Russian positions in the Severodonetsk and Lysychansk regions.
Military expert Oleg Zhdanov believes that there is not much time left to wait for good news from Lyman:
“Until yesterday, they were leaving there at an increased pace. They are also afraid of being surrounded and do not want to get into the “cauldrons”. They say that there are few regular units left in Lyman – two battalions of “Bars” and a Cossack regiment. We do not attack it, but simply surround it. Since there is no supply, they have nothing to fight for. It will be a very good addition to the exchange funds. So you may agree that good news from the Lyman may come today or tomorrow.”
Russian “militants” sound the alarm
The first Russian reports about the encirclement of Liman by Ukrainians received after 15:00 on September 29. Russian sources indicated that the Armed Forces completed the encirclement of the Russian group in the Lyman area as of the end of the day on September 29.
According to reports from Russian military correspondents, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation broke through the Russian defenses in the Stavkiv area, 10 km north of Liman, and cut the Torske-Drobysheve road, which is the last supply and exit route for the Russian Armed Forces holding the line west of Liman. Russian bloggers called the situation “extremely difficult” for the BARS-13 unit and the 752nd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 20th Combined Arms Army, which are reportedly holding the defense in the Drobyshevo area and in Lyman.
Another Russian military blogger said that Ukrainian forces are attacking Liman from three directions and have cut Russian access to the critical Svatove-Lyman road, which is the main land line of communication supporting the Russian group in Liman itself. Several bloggers said that without immediate reinforcements of Russian troops, Ukrainian troops will be able to take Liman.
The occupiers threw those mobilized to save the situation
According to General Staff of the Armed Forcesthe leadership of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation recently demobilized, low-skilled personnel headed to Liman. Thus, on September 26, 7 tanks arrived at Liman, 2 of which were involved in a road accident on the way. In addition, the tank crews did not undergo proper fire training using standard weapons.
Military expert Oleg Zhdanovcommenting on this case, noted that those mobilized were prepared to play the role of suicide bombers.
“This shows that the driver mechanics are ‘zero’. They must not have mastered the controls. In addition, the crews also did not receive the appropriate training. Fire control skills are very important for tankers. That is why I said that the first wave of mobilized there will be suicide bombers. They will simply be thrown into the furnace of war,” Zhdanov noted.
“The Second World Army” is fleeing from Lyman
The command of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine made it public video of the retreat of the Russians in the Lyman direction. In the video, the occupiers, who received the order “no step back”running chaotically through the woods.
“The video probably shows a ‘tactical regrouping’ of the occupation troops in the Lyman direction,” the description under the video reads.
Videos are spreading on the network, how the “second army of the world” is trying to break out of the cauldron.
Journalist Yuriy Butusov made public on Facebook, a drone photo from the scene of hostilities. According to him, a significant concentration of Russian troops in Liman is trying to get out of the encirclement.
“The Russian convoy of combat vehicles and stolen civilian transport is now in the village of Zarichne, preparing to break through to Torskyi and get out of the encirclement. This street is the only road on which the Russians will gather to escape. The road is being shot at by Ukrainians… The enemy is clearly visible. Russian troops have now formed columns in Liman, and they are starting to move one by one, will try to break through very quickly before dark. The Russians are afraid that in the dark our infantry will go beyond Torske, and any movement will be completely impossible. They are in a hurry,” Butusov writes.
